English 101

My experience in English 101 this semester was full of trial and error choices. I learned that in order to make a decent grade i would have to wake up earlier. I also learned that i would have to stay awake in class the the important, detailed information. The single most important thing i learned in class this semester is that i would have to stay dedicated and be very patient. I think the most imperative change i made in my writing process was my paragraph structure. I did not learn how to sequence the sentences in order from topic sentences to details about the facts. I feel that after i learned this new process it opened up a new side of writing to me. It has improved my outlook on writing papers.

Research Topics

I chose to use these sources because they seemed to match well with my topic. They all contributed to the paper in their own specific way. The sources allowed the paper to come together well and flow smoothly. The sources allow the reader to understand that today's society really does seem to allow the accessories of a cellular phone to determine the purchaser's perception on phone choice.

Research Prospectus

Over the years many technological advances have occurred, and they will continue to get more complex as the human population also becomes more advanced. One technological advancement that seems to become more and more complicated is telecommunication devices, such as cellular phones. When the first cell phones were invented they were made to model after the home phones. They were big, cumbersome, and hard to deal with. These earlier phones were used only to communicate verbally. They did not contain features such as text messaging and camera action. The older models of cell phones have been banished, and new, more advanced cell phones have been released. Phone manufacturers have tried to perfect the cell phone invention. As time passes, cell phone ideas will continue to be presented, and the public will continue to buy the expensive projects in order to keep up with the rest of society.

I think that text messages really do affect the way of life in much of the society. The technology we use today is very much inclusive of cell phone usage. Much of the communication in the population is done with cell phones. Cell phones were first only used for verbal communication, but today other ways of communicating have been invented, such as text messaging. The invention of texting has allowed us to be able communicate with each other in quiet environments. This has become very common in many cases. Text messaging allows us to stay in touch with one another at almost any time of the day. This will help us to be able to maintain our relationships almost 24/7. This could also be a negative because with text messaging there should be no excuse for u to fall out of touch with anyone. For example, if a teenager is out with his friends and his mother texts him and tells him to return home, he has no other choice to obey because the text message is guarenteed. Another negative is that texting could distract a student in class. They can text their friends all day without learning a thing in class. On the other hand it could be beneficial because if something happens that is very important, a simple text can say it all. Overall, the invention of text messaging was a very important invention to the society.

Foreign Athletic Limits
I feel that this paper should get a C- because of a couple issues. One issue I had with this paper is the writer did not support his/her opinion very well. I was not persuaded that he/she was very persistent in proving their point. There was, however, good citation of the sources. Another issue I had with the essay is there is an abundance of grammatical errors.

Online College vs. Online High School
This paper would have received a B+ from me. I fell that way because unlike the first essay it had very few grammatical errors. Also the writer's theses statement was well supported and proven immediately. The essay was well put together overall.

Predisposed to Divorce
This paper would most likely receive and A or A+ from me. I say this because the paper was VERY well organized and it flowed very well. The writer proved his/her point and suppported their opinion throughout the whole paper. There were a few punctuation errors that were almost not noticable. Other than that this paper is the best overall.

NAACP Case Agianst Gun Manufacturers
I would have given this a C-. I say this because first of all, there was very little support to the theses statement. However, it was presented well almost immedeatly. The sentence structure and flow was not very good and if it was the writer could have written a much better paper.

video game draft paragragh

Butler, the writer of "Video Games: The Answer to Adolescent Aggression," was in protest to the comments of the media about the correlation between violent video games and violence in reality. Butler stated that just like the restaurants should not be blamed for obesity neither should violence be blamed on video games. He said that ever since the incident happened at Colombine High School, the media and population have been trying to pin the blame of violence on these animated massacres. He goes on to say that video games should not be blamed for the "heartless idiots that follow through with such horrendous acts..."(Butler 1).

Video Games

In the article, "Video Games: The Answer to Adolescent Aggression", I feel that the writer's comments make a lot of sense. Israel Butler states that the crime and violence rate should not be blamed on violent video games. He also stated that obesity should not be blamed on fast food restaurant advertisements. I feel the same way because people control their own minds and make their own decisions at their own will. Many violent and even deadly acts have been known to somehow be traced back to these violent video games. These video games are very unrealistic in most of their attributes compared to reality. For example, in some of these murder-filled games the main character is able to take multiple shots from firearms and/or other damaging weapons and still survive, breathing walking, and even running as if nothing happened. This is just one of the many ways in which these games cannot be treated as realistic in any way. On the other hand, I do agree that yes these games can influence the minds of younger children, but as the child matures he should be able to realize that some of the things that happen on these games are impossible to accomplish. It is good that ratings have been placed on these games in an effort to reduce the number of younger children purchasing these games, but where there is a will, there is a way, and these children will still be found playing these games no matter what.

Facebook Addiction

The facebook addiction is slowly spreading across the nation. It has spread from professional work areas, to college campuses, back to the homes to personal computers. College students as well as high school students have become very fond of this networking site. People have become used to using facebook as the major means for meeting new people and communicating twith others. More anti-social people have found themselves using Facebook to start conversation rather than approaching the person face to face. One way that facebook can be productive is to allow people to keep in touch with friends or family members that are not nearby or close enough to talk to face to face. Facebook is similar to a community because of the seperation of groups in comparison to social seperation in the society. Sometimes college students are so addicted to facebook that they do not make time for anything else and miss out on time for studying or doing homework.
